Zero Waste, One Identity
Scottish Non-Profit Streamlines Engagement for Environmental Change
About
Zero Waste Scotland is a not-for-profit company funded by the Scottish Government and European Regional Development Fund. The organization’s vision is to create a society where resources are valued and nothing is wasted. Its work supports the delivery of the Government’s policy priorities on waste and resource use, energy efficiency, and a low-carbon economy.
Challenges
To achieve our goals, we work with different businesses and organizations, consumers, and local governments. To successfully offer a wide variety of resources to such a diverse group of users, it was very clear to us that we needed to enhance our online presence and user experience to facilitate a stronger connection with our audience, which is why we began looking for a solution like LoginRadius.
A fragmented digital ecosystem
Zero Waste Scotland has created a number of web properties and digital touchpoints to educate and excite the public. However, users and stakeholders had a hard time accessing and engaging with the different tools because they were separate entities and did not provide users with a seamless transition between the websites.
Barriers limiting connection
Social initiatives like these rely on public engagement—something for which a user-friendly web presence is essential. The legacy system not only limited user engagement, but also restricted Zero Waste Scotland’s insight into their users.
Need for a dynamically-built platform to support quick and easy changes
Like most not-for-profits, Zero Waste Scotland has limited in-house development resources. Their search for a solution was narrowed by the need for something that would accommodate new add-ons efficiently and economically as they expand.
Security compliance with EU regulations
As a government-funded non-profit organization in the European Union (EU), Zero Waste Scotland has to follow strict rules around data privacy and compliance. The solution they chose had to centralize and secure the user data while also meeting the necessary privacy and compliance regulations applicable in the EU.
Results
Strategically designed registration and login processes
With the implementation of a customer identity solution, Zero Waste Scotland was able to plan out their digital ecosystem and user journey. Now they can gather first-party information to better understand their users and stakeholders. With this information, Zero Waste Scotland can design more effective and efficient marketing and awareness campaigns.
A connected user experience
By connecting all five of the digital properties with single sign-on, users can now seamlessly explore and navigate through the different websites without hassle.
A platform built for the future
With identity at the center of the Zero Waste Scotland user ecosystem, there will always be room to add and expand without having to reinvent the wheel. The organization is currently in the process of integrating their Microsoft Dynamics CRM with the LoginRadius platform to sync their user information.
Full confidence in data security
Thanks to the LoginRadius custom EU data center and maintained EU security compliances, Zero Waste Scotland can repurpose time spent on security upkeep to focus on what really matters (i.e. saving the world).
How did we do it?
Fully customizable solution
Zero Waste Scotland used the LoginRadius API to fully customize the functionality of their customer identity tools to keep up with industry best practices and further their own business goals. With the LoginRadius Dashboard, the non-profit is able to make quick and easy configuration changes to support their changing needs. LoginRadius also integrates with virtually any platform that is API driven, making it easy to sync data to external tools.
Single sign-on
With the implementation of single sign-on, Zero Waste Scotland’s multiple digital properties are now connected by one database, allowing users to create one single profile and navigate from website to website without having to reauthenticate.
Security compliance
By providing Zero Waste Scotland the option to store their data in the EU, LoginRadius ensures that their data is compliant with all of the relevant security and privacy regulations.
Within government agencies and not-for-profits, there tends to be some stigma around cloud-based solutions, but we have been very impressed by the level of security measures and compliances met by LoginRadius.
