Northumbrian Water Limited hits the sweet spot between sustainable, clean, and safe water supply. The company, which describes itself as “being instrumental in fulfilling basic human needs and protecting the source of life,” expertly serves nearly three million people in the North East.
Northumbrian Water (NW) and Essex & Suffolk Water (ESW) are both parts of Northumbrian Water Limited, a company registered in England and Wales, which is a member of Northumbrian Water Group.
NWL decided to upgrade its existing infrastructure in favor of modern platform deployment and approached LoginRadius. As a result, we revamped its in-house system with our cloud-based identity management—a move (out of many) that has increased the number of NWL’s user accounts by 36.14% over the last 12 months.

Legal and Compliance
As a consumer-centric utility company operating in the European Union, when the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect in 2018, NWL was concerned about its consumer data. It wanted to make sure that all related legal and compliances are taken care of.
Rightfully so, we provided clarity and consistency for the protection of consumer’s personal data. Now, it is easier for NWL to be able to comply with regional regulations and ensure their consumers that their data is safe and secure.
Login Security and Scalability
NWL realized that a streamlined and consolidated identity solution would enable greater efficiency in maintaining login security, which is otherwise resource-intensive.
LoginRadius offered a secure, stable, and reliable authentication to accommodate the large-scale rollout of registration and login requests. Scaling from 100K to 700K consumers within a year was a smooth sail against suspicious logins, brute force attempts, password hacks, and other security breaches.

NWL was in search of a platform that really understands security and ease of use. LoginRadius offered them a solution that adheres to both local and international regulations concerning privacy and consent management.
Federated SSO
NWL needed a way for its consumers to connect via their existing third-party platforms seamlessly. Partnering with LoginRadius meant NWL could facilitate Federated SSO to all of their platforms for secure and easy authentication.
Password Management
NWL wanted a solution that could handle consumers’ password management concerns and help them stay ahead of security issues. LoginRadius provided multiple security settings such as Password Expiration, Complexity, and Strength to enforce secure consumer identity.
Result
Better ROI
NWL saw immediate ROI by investing in a CIAM platform compared to building its own in-house solution. LoginRadius boasts an impressive list of features in terms of authentication, integration, and scalability—meaning NWL saved thousands of dollars by avoiding expensive development costs and cutting down on maintenance hours.
Profile Management
LoginRadius provided NWL with a 360-degree view of their consumers. With our User Management Dashboard, it could view, block, unblock, add or change names and other consumer information. Additionally, when NWL permanently deletes a consumer from their system, all profile data are removed as well.
How Did We Do It?
We improved NWL’s consumer experience by giving its users the freedom to log in and manage their passwords seamlessly. As a result, NWL’s monthly active users (MAU) have increased from 11.6% to 16.8% (based on April 2020 to March 2021).
